Crashed In Allied Territory Comments: Flying spare. Turned back early with engine trouble, crash-landed at Nuthampstead. Lost #2 forcing an abort, followed by significant loss of power in #3. Unable to maintain altitude, Pilot decided to land at fighter base. Shortly before touching down, it became apparent that P-38's were taking off on his intended landing runway, so he immediately turned the ship towards an open field to the right and crash-landed with wheels up. All ten crew suffered injury, two seriously. |
