384th Bombardment Group (Heavy) in World War II

Grateful for the "Sky Queen" material as this was my Uncle who was the bottom turret gunner

Photos from left to right:

1. My father, 2LT John Dominic Maurillo, on leave in Syracuse NY with his parents, Rosaria Clavelli Maurillo and Vitantonio Maurillo. His parents did not obtain US citizenship until the 1950s, so during the war, they were classed as enemy aliens.

2. My father, 2LT John Dominic Maurillo, on leave in Syracuse NY with my mother, Mary DeLuca, whom he later married.

3. My father and my stepmother, Dorothea. By this time, Dad had spent several years in the Air Force Reserves and had been promoted to Captain. I believe that Dad and Dorothea were attending a Reserve function in this photo.

4. My parents (LT John D. Maurillo and Mary DeLuca Maurillo) were on their honeymoon in Atlantic City when this was taken in October 1944. He was based in New Jersey for a short time before being assigned to Midland-Odessa TX and finally to Monroe LA, where I was born in July 1945.

5. 2LT John D Maurillo and Mary DeLuca Maurillo, my parents, on their wedding day in Syracuse NY on September 30, 1944. Dad had just returned from Grafton-Underwood and was being assigned stateside. As he was passing through Syracuse on his way to New Jersey, he and my mother were married. She was 19 and he was 21.
