  • Date of Birth: 12 July 1916
  • Ordered to travel to Coombe House Hotel (a 'flak house'), Semley, Dorset, for seven days beginning 21 December 1943 on AAF Station 106 Special Orders #171 dated 20 December 1943.
  • 2LT Sampson Sharff completed his combat tour with 30 missions and was transferred to the 27th Air Transport Group, 312th Ferrying Squadron on 9 May 1944.
    There, serving as co-pilot of Consolidated B-24H Liberator #42-51202, 1LT Sharff was killed when the plane crashed in low cloud on Snaefell, Isle of Man, June 8, 1944.
    He was on his way home, but he did not make it back to the USA. Initially he was interred at Lisnabreeny American Military Cemetery in Belfast, UK, but when that cemetery closed, his remains were transferred to Hillside Memorial Park in Culver City, Los Angeles County, CA.
    He was promoted to First Lieutenant after leaving the 384th Bomb Group on 9 May 1944.
