Tactical Bridges Targeted: The second D-Day mission for the 384th Bombardment Group (H) sent five Squadrons, referred to as I, J, K, L, and M Squadrons in mission records, to knock out important bridges behind the invasion beaches as units of Air Task Force #2. These formations included two PFF-equipped aircraft from the 305th BG. All B-17s on this mission dropped their 500- and 1000-pound bombs on signal from the Lead PFF ships, with unobserved results. |
