Mission Recalled: The 384th Bombardment Group (H) provided two formations for today's mission; both were assigned the same primary target. A group-sized formation led the 41st Combat Bombardment Wing, and a squadron flew as the high squadron of the high composite group of the 94th Combat Bombardment Wing. Weather scattered formations and disrupted the integrity of the bomber stream, so recall messages were sent by headquarters. The lead group of the 41st CBW received a recall message after penetrating about 50 miles into enemy territory (near Hardenberg, The Netherlands), and turned back at 1008 hrs. The other squadron, while remaining in group formation, had lost the other groups in the 94th CBW: they received a recall message while still over the English Channel, and turned back at 0953 hrs. |
