Assigned to the 545th Bombardment Squadron, squadron code JD-V, 384th Bombardment Group, station 106, Grafton Underwood, UK on 4 June 1943. Failed to return from a mission to Huls, Germany on 22 June 1943 with pilot-Robert James Olbinski, co-pilot-Harry R. Swift, navigator-Richard Elias Grandpre, engineer/top turret gunner-Oliver Eugene Reed, ball turret gunner-George Frank Werbernec, waist gunner-William J. Counihan Jr. (6 Prisoners of War). Bombardier-Douglas H. Turner, radio operator-Ernie Trickett {was killed during the fighter attack} waist gunner-George W. Waterman, tail gunner-Harold J. Cooke {chute failed} (4 Killed in Action).
