1st Lt. Jackson displays a gold fish patch on the right breast pocket of his "Ike" uniform jacket denoting his ditching experience. Jackson was promoted to 1st Lieutenant in June, 1944.

Above the left pocket are an Air Medal Ribbon with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters. The Air Medal was awarded when Jackson completed five combat missions. Each Oak Leaf Cluster represents five additional missions. Jackson completed 23 missions altogether.
