"Satan's Playmate", B-17G-15-VE, Ser. No. 42-97510, BK+A

"Satan's Playmate", a Vega-built B-17G-15-VE, Ser. No. 42-97510, with squadron codes BK+A served with the 546th Squadron, 384th Bomb Group from February 18th, 1944 until May 27th, 1945. It returned to the USA on July 6th, 1945 and was scrapped at Kingman, Arizona on December 12th, 1945.

On May 8th, 1944 , 2nd Lt. Winthrop A. Jackson Jr flew this B-17G on a "NOBALL" mission to Sottevast, France. WAJ Jr was the pilot of Crew 40 on this mission. Over target, he was severely wounded in the leg and number 4 engine had to be shut down due to flak damage. Nevertheless, WAJ Jr managed to return to England, landing at RAF Ford, Winchester, England on the South coast. This was his 23rd (and last) combat mission.
