Lts. Dick Dolf and Win (Jack) Jackson just after a double wedding ceremony in the base chapel at Dalhart Army Air Base, Dalhart, Texas. Dick married Nell Gwen Lockhart and Win married Dorothy Sebring Case. They and the rest of the Clayton crew left Dalhart on October 21, 1943 bound for the European Theater of Operations (ETO).
Both of these men sustained serious leg wounds from flak in combat. Dick was wounded in the knee on January 30th, 1944. Due to a fused knee joint, he was sent back stateside and received a medical discharge.
Win was wounded in the left thigh on May 8th, 1944 and spent nine months convalescing in England. He would not see Dorothy until February, 1945. Seven months previous to this reunion, Dorothy gave birth to twin daughters (Harriette and Beverly).
