Weather Prevents Bombing: The 384th Bombardment Group (H) flew today's mission alone: there was no wing or division assembly, or organized 'bomber stream.' Because the briefed target was in occupied territory, bombardiers were required to make positive visual identification of the aiming point before releasing their bombs; this was not possible due to the nearly solid cloud cover in the target area. Many bomb runs were flown (lead and high squadrons made eight, and the low squadron made nine or more) but in the end, all bombs were returned to base. |
