Underground Oil Storage Attacked: The 384th Bombardment Group (H) flew as the 41st Combat Bombardment Wing 'B' Group on today's mission. It was a long haul to the target near Munich, but the bombers were met with clear skies, and bombing results were good. The lead and low squadrons bombed on the first run, but the bomb bay door motors in the lead aircraft of the high squadron failed, and the doors could not be hand-cranked open in time to drop, so the high squadron returned to the I.P. and completed a successful visual bomb run. Because of that, the high squadron had to tack on to another formation on the return to home base. |
