1945‑02‑28 277 854 Target: Railroad Marshalling Yards
Type: Transportation
Location: Hagen, Germany
Hagen Railroad Targeted: The 384th Bombardment Group (H) flew as the 41st Combat Wing B Group on today's mission - the tenth in as many days. The low squadron managed to bomb on the first run, and then returned to base with the 379th BG. The Gee-H equipment in the lead squadron (both lead and deputy) failed prior to the bomb run, so the lead squadron fell in trail of the high squadron for bombing. The 41st CW A Group came in on a collision course during the bomb run, so the high squadron, with the lead squadron in trail, went around again and completed the attack.

1945‑03‑01 278 857 Target: Railroad Marshalling Yards
Type: Transportation
Location: Bruchsal, Germany
Transportation Attacked: The 384th Bombardment Group (H) flew as the 41st Bomb Wing C Group on today's mission. Although prepared for blind bombing, there was sufficient visibility in the target area for visual sighting. The lead and low squadrons were able to bomb on the first run, but a bomb sight salvo switch malfunction in the high squadron lead plane forced a second run for them. The entire group stayed together for the second run, with the high squadron in the lead.

Bombing Through Clouds: The 384th Bombardment Group (H) flew as the 41st Combat Wing B Group on today's mission - the fourteenth in as many days (they would get a 3-day break before the next mission). The primary target was to be attacked by visual means or Gee-H (not by PFF): clouds obscured the target so the formation used Gee-H. The equipment failed on the first run, and during the second run, the lead squadron was scattered by another group crossing at right angles. Nevertheless, bombs were away from all three squadrons on the second run, and all returned to base; a few had to land on the way for gas, and one damaged ship landed away and did not return home on the same day.

Type: Oil Industry
Location: Bohlen, Germany
#3 Target Attacked: The bomber stream for this mission was composed of bomb groups (rather than wings of three groups). Three squadrons of the 384th Bombardment Group (H) formed the entire 41st C Combat Bombardment Group (41C Group) and one squadron flew as the Low Squadron of the 41st D Composite Group (41D Squadron) on today's mission. The primary target was briefed as visual only and was cloud-covered. The secondary (also visual only) was not visible, so the #3 target was attacked using PFF aiming.

Hamburg Hammered: A practice mission scheduled for today was scrubbed when a Field Order was received in the morning. The Group flew as the 41st Bombardment Wing A Group on today's mission. The primary (visual only) target was hidden by clouds, so the #2 target was attacked using PFF, with minimal help from visual sightings. The high and low squadrons bombed on their first run, but the lead squadron had to avoid traffic conflicts, and elected to make a second bomb run. As a result, the lead squadron returned to base independently.

Weather, Equipment, Turbulence: The 384th Bombardment Group (H) flew as the 41st Bomb Wing B Group on today's mission. On initial approach to the target area, the division leader decided to attack the #2 target. After making two unsuccessful PFF runs on that target - foiled by equipment difficulties and prop-wash - the 384th decided to head directly for the #4 target, which the lead and high squadrons attacked. The low squadron again ran into prop-wash, which prevented accurate bombing, so they proceeded to attack a target of opportunity (TOO) at Würzburg, Germany by visual means.

Underground Oil Storage Attacked: The 384th Bombardment Group (H) flew as the 41st Combat Bombardment Wing 'B' Group on today's mission. It was a long haul to the target near Munich, but the bombers were met with clear skies, and bombing results were good. The lead and low squadrons bombed on the first run, but the bomb bay door motors in the lead aircraft of the high squadron failed, and the doors could not be hand-cranked open in time to drop, so the high squadron returned to the I.P. and completed a successful visual bomb run. Because of that, the high squadron had to tack on to another formation on the return to home base.

Critical Railway Junction: The 384th Bombardment Group (H) flew as the 41st Combat Wing B Group on today's mission. Visual bombing conditions enabled accurate aiming, although many of the bombs landed beyond the planned MPI, or 'long'. A traffic conflict caused the high squadron to hold its bombs on the first run and make a second run by itself, tacking on to another formation for the return flight.

THE LAST ONE!: The 384th Bombardment Group (H) flew as the 41st Combat Bombardment Wing C Group in Air Task Force 1 on today's mission, the last strategic bombing mission of the war in Europe. Under strict orders to bomb by visual means only, the Lead and Low Squadrons made two bomb runs, and the High Squadron made three. Results appeared to be good, and the delay resulted in the 384th dropping the final bombs of the war on Axis targets in Europe.
It was not known that this would be the last strategic bombing mission of WWII in the ETO until well after this mission ended.
