Ferried overseas and assigned to the 385th Bombardment Group, station 155, Great Ashfield, UK on 10 October 1943; transferred to the 303rd Bombardment Group, station 107, Molesworth on 19 October 1943, then to the 1st Base Air Depot (1 BAD), station 590, Burtonwood on 23 October 1943. Transferred to the 544th Bombardment Squadron, squadron code SU-L, 384th Bombardment Group, station 106, Grafton Underwood on 2 November 1943. Failed to return from a mission to Bremen, Germany on 26 November 1943 with pilot-John Benjamin Holland, co-pilot-Frank Adolph Procopio, bombardier-Thomas Gerald Witt, engineer/top turret gunner-James Hillard Winfree, radio operator-Walter John Lazarz, ball turret gunner-Lennon Cleveland Lisenby, waist gunner-Stanley Duzynski, waist gunner-Angus Lee Newman, tail gunner-Julian Austin Britt (9 Prisoners of War).
