  • From duty to absent sick (LD) 49th Station Hospital, Diddington (seriously injured in plane accident-non-operational) per 544th Squadron Morning Report 3 August 1944.
  • (Absent sick) relieved from assigned & transferred to Detachment of Patients, 4204 U.S. Army Hospital Plant effective 8 August 1944 (non-battle causes--injured in training crash) per 544th Squadron Morning Report 12 August 1944.
  • Vranna was severely injured in a crash-landing on the night of 3 August, 1944. He was the co-pilot of a minimal crew, which had taken off to 'slow-time' a new engine when the evening fog settled in. They crashed when they attempted to land. Although the report of this accident lists him as a fatality, he did survive his 'multiple, devastating injuries' (see 'Remote Webpage' link) which led to his return to the USA for treatment.
