Jr., Pilot of Crew #40 on the 8th May raid on Sottevast, was hit in the leg by flak and hospitalized at Winchester, near where his crippled plane landed after the raid. At This writing [early June 1944] he is still hospitalized.'
  • 544th Unit History, 7 August 1944 (microfilm A0640-01468): '1st Lt. Winthrop A. Jackson who had been previously wounded in action, was lost to the unit when he was transferred to the Det. of patients of 4168 U S Army Hospital Plant and departed on this date.'
