Ball Bearing Plant Spared: The 384th Bombardment Group (H) flew as the low group of the 41st Combat Bombardment Wing on today's mission. The primary target was hidden by heavy clouds, so the Wing bombed the city of Frankfurt.

Comments: Flying spare. Turned back early with engine trouble, crash-landed at Nuthampstead. Lost #2 forcing an abort, followed by significant loss of power in #3. Unable to maintain altitude, Pilot decided to land at fighter base. Shortly before touching down, it became apparent that P-38's were taking off on his intended landing runway, so he immediately turned the ship towards an open field to the right and crash-landed with wheels up. All ten crew suffered injury, two seriously.
