Crew History

Although assigned to the 384th BG on 5 December 1943, this crew began flying combat missions with the 303rd BG on-or-about 14 December, and never appeared on any 384th BG combat rosters. The pilot's son reports: 'My Dad and his crew had arrived at the 384th from the CCRC, and were promptly sent to the 303rd. This occurred after the CCRC had received an urgent call from Major Mel Schulstad for replacement pilots/crews for the 303rd following heavy losses during missions. Note that one person was added to this crew, in the First Bomb Division Special Orders of 18 December 1943, who is not otherwise identifiable from 384th BG records: he is Sgt Leslie H. Schweinebraten 13168157. From available records, it is not known if he ever served at Grafton Underwood, but he did serve with the 303rd and was KIA on 24 May 1944.
